Statement of Purpose

During the past decade, and longer, an international group of prominent medical scientists have collaborated in the authorship of numerous publications, including many scientific papers, several books, and oral presentations, dealing with various aspects of head and neck oncology. These publications and presentations have reviewed the current status, history or controversies in the pathology, diagnosis and management of head and neck neoplasms. In particular, trends and changing paradigms in diagnosis and management of malignant disease of the head and neck have been identified, debated and evaluated.

The International Head and Neck Scientific Group has been formed to formalize the collaborative work of this group of contributors, who have lent their prestige, knowledge and writing skills to these multiple projects. Our purpose is to continue to create scientific communications that will educate the medical community on the changing “state of the art” in treatment of head and neck neoplasms. Published papers will be identified as “written by members and invitees of the International Head and Neck Scientific Group.”

The IHNSG Website

This website has been created in order to provide information about the membership of the Group, work that is planned or in production, and recent publications. Links will be provided to abstracts and procurement of published articles via PubMed and other sites. Members and individuals who are interested in contributing to proposed articles, or who wish to submit new ideas, may communicate by e-mail with the Secretary of the organization. The website will be updated quarterly so as to provide current information.

Leadership

Previous work by this group has been organized and coordinated by Alfio Ferlito, MD of the University of Udine, Udine Italy. He will act as Coordinator of the IHNSG, and Carl E. Silver, MD, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY, USA will be Vice-Coordinator. Robert P. Takes, MD, of the Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, will be Secretary. All correspondence should be directed to Robert Takes, MD. It is our hope that this organization and website will help make a meaningful contribution to head and neck oncology.
